Copenhagen Airport has opened five new security lanes as part of a wider plan to modernize its screening process. The first phase of the project went into effect on May 7, 2025, and includes lanes equipped with new CT scanning technology. The airport plans to complete the full upgrade to twenty modern lanes by spring 2026.

The new equipment enables passengers to leave laptops, liquids, and other electronics inside their bags during inspection. Items like belts and shoes can also remain on, which simplifies the screening process. The new lanes are in service, but other passengers will remain at the traditional checkpoints until the full transition is completed. Assignment to a particular lane will depend on daily operational logistics.

Implementation of advanced screening technology is anticipated to shorten wait times and improve the efficiency of the security process. At busy travel times, the new system may provide more reliable procedures, helping to minimize delays at checkpoints. Travelers might also avoid the need to remove electronics or liquids from their bags, which can make the inspection process less stressful.

The use of CT scanning and automated processes marks a broader trend in European airports aimed at enhancing both efficiency and security. With space for multiple passengers to prepare at once and a redesigned checkpoint environment, the system supports quicker throughput. Updated lighting and improved airflow in the security area contribute to a more practical and less stressful experience for travelers.

This development indicates a change in how airports are adapting their infrastructure to better serve travelers. While the full upgrade remains in progress, the launch of the first five lanes demonstrates a step forward in making travel more efficient. For passengers, this means fewer delays, simplified procedures, and a more predictable start to their journey, especially during the summer travel season.
