Newcastle to Dalaman: A New Option for Summer Getaways

From summer 2025, people flying out of Newcastle can head straight to Dalaman on a new direct route from SunExpress, the airline run together by Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. The flights will operate twice weekly using Boeing 737 aircraft. This new connection is the second Turkish route SunExpress offers from Newcastle. It adds to the existing flights to Antalya and gives travellers in the North East more ways to reach Türkiye.
The service is expected to offer greater convenience for residents of Durham, Sunderland, and surrounding areas by eliminating the need to travel to larger airports such as Manchester or London for flights to southwestern Türkiye. As summer travel picks up and larger airports get crowded, this new route could ease some of that pressure by offering a simpler way for people near Newcastle to start their journeys.
Our new route to Dalaman reflects the success of our services from Newcastle and our continued commitment to connecting the UK with Türkiye. Combined with our growing flights to Antalya, this new service opens up new holiday horizons for passengers from the North East.
Dalaman serves as a gateway to several notable destinations along Türkiye’s Turquoise Coast. The region offers a mix of cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and resort towns that attract a diverse range of travellers. From archaeological sites to beaches and scenic coastal paths, the area is well connected by road from Dalaman Airport, making it a practical arrival point for international visitors exploring southwestern Türkiye.
Fethiye is a coastal town where you can wander past cliffside tombs carved by the ancient Lycians, stroll along a buzzing seafront, and shop for local goods in colorful, crowded markets. Marmaris combines historical landmarks with a developed marina and vibrant nightlife. Dalyan is a slower-paced spot where visitors can glide through peaceful river channels by boat, spot wildlife along the banks, and unwind at İztuzu Beach, a long stretch of sand where sea turtles nest under protection.

More and more airlines are giving smaller UK airports a chance by moving some international flights there instead of sending everything through the usual crowded hubs. This is all part of a bigger change to make flying less of a hassle and more fair, no matter where in the UK people live. If the Dalaman flights become a hit, Newcastle Airport might get more new routes in the future and slowly build its name in the wider UK air travel network.
