Tanzania Promotes Tourism to Attract Chinese Visitors

A gala event marking the beginning of the 2024 China-Tanzania Culture and Tourism Year took place in Beijing on May 15, celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The event featured traditional Tanzanian music, dance, and acrobatics, impressing the audience at the China National Opera House.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sun Yeli, China's Minister of Culture and Tourism; Angellah Kairuki, Tanzania's Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism; and Khamis Omar, Tanzanian Ambassador to China. Omar highlighted the strong ties between the nations, emphasizing the importance of their six-decade-long friendship.

During the gala, the 25-minute documentary "Amazing Tanzania" premiered, showcasing the country's rich natural and cultural heritage. The documentary, narrated by renowned Chinese actor Jin Dong, explored attractions such as Zanzibar Island, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Serengeti National Park.

Kairuki extended an invitation to Chinese tourists to experience Tanzania's diverse landscapes and warm hospitality. She noted that Tanzania has identified China as a key strategic tourism market, aiming to attract 5 million international tourists by 2025.

Under the guidance of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania is taking measures to promote its tourism industry globally. The tourism sector contributes significantly to Tanzania's economy, accounting for 25 percent of foreign exchange earnings and 17.5 percent of GDP.

The gala event not only highlighted Tanzanian culture and history but also reinforced the friendly relations and growing cooperation between China and Tanzania. As the 2024 China-Tanzania Culture and Tourism Year progresses, both countries are optimistic about the potential for increased tourism and strengthened bilateral ties.
