As the summer travel season unfolds, 'Hopper' has observed a notable uptick in Americans choosing Europe as their preferred destination.

Hayley Berg, the lead economist at 'Hopper,' reports a substantial surge in travel bookings to Europe during the summer months. This trend is driven by school holidays and the allure of favorable weather across much of the continent.

"We anticipate around 57,000 flights departing from US airports bound for various European cities," Berg noted, underscoring the heightened demand.

Travelers will find good news in reduced travel costs, with prices for European trips down by approximately 16% compared to the previous year, making this an opportune time to plan a getaway.

For those looking for last-minute deals, Berg advises prompt action in booking flights. She recommends steering clear of popular and expensive destinations such as London, Rome, and Paris (especially with the upcoming Olympics), in favor of lesser-known but equally enchanting cities.

"Consider exploring Reykjavik, Copenhagen, or Stockholm, all offering round-trip fares under $600," Berg suggested. "These cities boast milder summer climates and fewer crowds, ensuring a more relaxed travel experience."

Berg stressed the financial benefits of flying mid-week, where travelers can save up to $400 per ticket compared to weekend departures.

"For travelers with flexibility, consider shifting your trip to late August or early September when prices typically drop by 30%," Berg advised. "This adjustment not only maximizes savings but also enhances the overall travel experience."

Planning ahead and leveraging these insights from 'Hopper' ensures a rewarding European adventure without exceeding your travel budget this summer.
