Spirit Airlines Launches New Nonstop Flights Between San José and Hollywood Burbank

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) proudly announces the expansion of Spirit Airlines with a new nonstop route to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). Starting September 4, 2024, Spirit will offer twice-daily flights on this route, marking a significant addition just one year after the airline commenced service at SJC. This new route elevates Spirit's daily departures from SJC to 13, representing a 150% increase since its initial flight on June 7, 2023.

In addition to this, Spirit Airlines has proposed nonstop flights from SJC to Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC, further expanding its footprint at San José Mineta.

SJC is known for its convenience and reliability, featuring a moderate size, easy-to-navigate layout, mild climate, and strategic location near downtown San José, the hub of Silicon Valley. Operated by the City of San José, SJC catered to over 12 million passengers in 2023 and was recognized as the Best Midsize Airport in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal. The airport offers nonstop services to over 40 destinations and supports significant business aviation activities in Silicon Valley.

San José Mayor Matt Mahan expressed enthusiasm for Spirit's growth, emphasizing the new connection to Burbank and the proposed direct flight to Washington, D.C., which will enhance travel options for both business and leisure travelers. City Manager Jennifer Maguire highlighted Spirit’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient flights, anticipating further growth at SJC.

Mookie Patel, SJC Director of Aviation, congratulated Spirit Airlines on their expansion, noting the additional flight options for Bay Area travelers. Patel praised the airport's strategic location and reliability, looking forward to strengthening their partnership with Spirit.

John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, noted that the new service will provide daily, low-cost flights between the tech and media hubs of San José and Burbank, complementing existing nonstop flights to Los Angeles (LAX) and expanding the number of nonstop destinations from SJC.

This expansion not only connects key economic regions but also underscores Spirit Airlines' role in facilitating travel to and from the heart of Silicon Valley.
