Ryanair has supported a decision by Bristol Crown Court to sentence a passenger to 10 months in prison after an incident on flight FR5518 from Kraków to Bristol on 11 November 2025. The passenger admitted guilt after consuming alcohol purchased in duty free, using abusive language towards others on board and refusing to follow instructions given by the cabin crew during the journey.

According to the airline, the incident disrupted the flight and affected both passengers and crew. Ryanair confirmed that it continues to apply a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct on board aircraft. The company states that action may be taken where behaviour interferes with the normal operation of a flight or creates an uncomfortable environment for others travelling on the same route.

The airline noted that penalties linked to disruptive conduct can include fines, removal from the aircraft or restrictions on future travel. The recent court decision shows that some incidents may be handled through legal channels rather than only through airline procedures. Ryanair said these measures aim to reduce incidents that disrupt flights or create difficulties for other passengers and crew.

What behaviour may lead to penalties on board

  • Consuming personal alcohol not served by crew
  • Ignoring safety instructions during the flight
  • Using offensive or threatening language
  • Disrupting the comfort of other passengers
  • Refusing to follow crew guidance

Incidents involving aggressive behaviour or refusal to follow crew instructions can disrupt the flight process and create difficulties for other people on board. In some cases, this may lead to delays or require additional action from the crew. Situations of this kind can affect the travel experience of everyone on the aircraft, not only those directly involved in the incident.

The case shows that actions during a flight do not always end when the aircraft lands. Behaviour that breaks safety rules or ignores crew instructions can lead to further consequences after the journey. For travellers, this underlines that conduct on board matters, as serious incidents may affect the ability to travel in the future as well as the experience of others on the same flight.
