Travelers in the Scottish Highlands may face significant disruptions in the coming weeks as Stagecoach bus drivers across the region are considering strike action. This potential strike follows a pay dispute between the company and Unite the union, with drivers overwhelmingly rejecting Stagecoach's latest wage offer.

The industrial action could affect around 120 bus drivers, primarily operating in and around Inverness, one of the region's main transport hubs. The strike ballot is set to close on October 24, and if successful, the strike may begin in early November, just as the Highlands prepare for the autumn travel season.

For travelers, especially those planning to explore the scenic beauty of the Highlands, this potential strike could lead to widespread disruptions. Bus services are a key mode of transportation for both tourists and locals, providing access to remote areas where alternative transport options are limited. Popular destinations such as Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, and Cairngorms National Park could become harder to reach, affecting sightseeing tours and other planned activities.

Moreover, the strike could coincide with a period of increased visitor interest in the region as the Highlands attract tourists year-round for its natural landscapes and outdoor adventures. Visitors relying on public transport to navigate the area should be aware of the potential impact on their itineraries and consider making alternative travel arrangements if necessary.

The possible disruption comes at a time when tourism in the Highlands is recovering from previous challenges, making this situation particularly concerning for both travelers and local businesses dependent on tourism.
