A complete closure of the railway line between Redhill and Tonbridge is scheduled for 16 to 25 August 2025. All train services along this section will be suspended while Network Rail undertakes a set of engineering works. Replacement buses will run throughout the nine days, affecting those travelling across parts of Surrey and Kent during the summer holiday period.

The closure is part of a planned infrastructure programme. The following works will be carried out during the nine-day suspension:

  • Renewal of high-voltage power cables between Nutfield and Leigh
  • Embankment reinforcement near Edenbridge to prevent future landslips
  • Track replacement in the area around Godstone
  • Structural inspections of eleven bridges along the route

Although this section will be closed, long-distance services to and from Redhill and Tonbridge will continue to operate on unaffected parts of the network.

We’ll have buses running between Redhill and Tonbridge to keep passengers moving, and as we get closer to the 16th of August, we will provide more detailed information on this.
Jenny Saunders, Southern's Customer Service Director

For those using the line during the summer months, the closure serves as a reminder that travel plans may need to be adjusted. Those heading to local attractions, rural destinations or onward train connections should stay informed and consider alternative options if needed. The changes will mainly affect local journeys, but their impact may be felt across the broader regional network.
