New Luxury Resort Opens on Saudi Arabia’s Shura Island

InterContinental has opened a new luxury resort on Shura Island, one of the early developments within Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea project. The 210-room property sits among coral reefs and protected marine areas, combining contemporary design with a strong focus on sustainability. Its debut reflects IHG’s wider luxury expansion and forms part of the country’s long-term plans to develop high-end tourism in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The resort’s architecture, designed by Foster + Partners with interiors by Kristina Zanic Consultants, has achieved LEED Platinum certification. Curved structures, natural textures, and Saudi artworks are used throughout the property to connect it with the island landscape. The project places equal emphasis on environmental standards and guest experience, positioning itself as a flagship development within the growing Red Sea region.

Guest rooms and suites, shaped with input from neuroscience-based designer Isabelle Sjövall, focus on calm colours, natural light, and textures intended to help guests rest and reset. Visitors also receive complimentary access to Timeshifter, an app using circadian science to help reduce jet lag. Additional services include Club InterContinental for private check-in, a marine-themed kids’ programme at Planet Trekkers, and an adults-focused spa offering open-air wellbeing domes, hydrotherapy, and yoga.

With its location on one of the Red Sea’s key islands, the resort places guests close to sailing trips, diving sites, and cycling routes, offering easier access to some of the region’s most striking coastal and marine environments.
