Beginning on 27 October 2025, Transavia is set to launch direct flights from Amsterdam to Cairo, operating three times a week. The service will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, making Cairo the fourth Egyptian destination in the airline’s network alongside Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Marsa Alam. This new route is part of the winter flight schedule, and tickets can already be booked through the airline’s standard platforms.

For European travellers, the launch of this route simplifies access to the Egyptian capital. Previously, many journeys to Cairo required stopovers or indirect flights, which added time and complexity. With this new connection, passengers can reach Cairo more efficiently, making it a more attractive option for both short and extended stays. The direct flight is anticipated to be advantageous not only for tourists but also for those visiting friends and family or travelling for personal matters.

Travellers arriving in Cairo will have the opportunity to explore some of the city’s most historic areas. Al-Muizz Street is a well-known area celebrated for its Islamic architecture and buildings that date back hundreds of years. Set on a hill, the Cairo Citadel was built in the twelfth century and features notable religious and historical architecture. Visitors can also experience the atmosphere of Khan el-Khalili, a traditional market where local goods, spices and crafts are still actively traded.

The new flights also provide easier access to sites located outside the city centre. The Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara is considered one of the earliest large-scale stone constructions ever built. Nearby, the remains of ancient Memphis include large statues and ruins from Egypt’s early dynasties. Travellers interested in natural landscapes can visit Al-Fayoum, a region known for its lakes, birdlife and archaeological sites located to the southwest of Cairo.

The addition of Cairo comes as part of Transavia’s broader winter expansion. The airline will increase frequencies on routes to Rabat and Agadir from Amsterdam and will introduce a new connection between Brussels and Agadir. It will also continue flying to Crete throughout the winter season. The growing use of Airbus A321neo aircraft on these routes may offer passengers improved capacity and comfort while meeting increasing travel demand.
