New Direct Flights to Bucharest Expand Travel Options from Maastricht

On August 1, 2025, it was announced that Maastricht Aachen Airport will soon have a new link to Bucharest, as Wizz Air prepares to begin direct flights at the end of October 2025. The route is expected to handle about 40,000 passengers a year, giving people in the southern Netherlands a simpler way to fly straight to Romania’s capital. This new route fits into a broader effort to make travel to Eastern Europe simpler, giving people more chances to book direct flights for weekend trips or longer holidays without complicated connections.

This winter, travelers from Maastricht can fly directly to two destinations: Bucharest in Romania and Chisinau in Moldova. A planned flight to Katowice in Poland is expected to begin in summer 2026. This growing network is expected to make flying around the region easier, offering travelers more options for family visits, cultural outings, and trips to smaller European cities without needing to pass through crowded major airports.

Visitors arriving in Bucharest on this new route will find a city full of history and energy. The enormous Palace of Parliament reflects Romania’s complex past, with vast halls and eye-catching architecture that leaves a strong impression on visitors.
