The Greek carrier SKY express has introduced a new nonstop route connecting Athens with Madrid. The first flight will leave on October 24, 2025. Airbus A320neo and A321neo planes fly this route five times a week. It connects two of Europe’s most visited capitals, expanding travel options between southeastern and southwestern Europe and strengthening air links that are essential for both business and tourism across the Mediterranean region.

The Athens–Madrid service forms part of SKY express’s broader plan to expand its international network, following its earlier launch of flights to Lisbon. Additional routes to Hamburg, Lyon, and Tel Aviv are expected before the end of 2025. The company’s approach reflects a wider trend among European airlines, which are focusing on mid-range international routes to increase connectivity and capture post-pandemic travel demand.

The new route gives you a direct way to get to Spain's capital without having to stop along the way. Every year, millions of people come to Madrid for its cultural heritage and business opportunities. The Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, and the Gran Via district are just some of the most important places that make this city so attractive. This route is designed to help both business travelers and tourists who want to travel easily between two Mediterranean regions.

The route is also good for people coming to Athens from Spain. It makes it easier to get to Greece's mainland and island destinations from the Athens hub. Travelers can reach well-known destinations such as Crete, Rhodes, and Santorini, as well as smaller regional airports within Greece’s domestic network. The route enhances transport links across Greece and gives travelers greater freedom to discover southern Europe at their own pace.

The introduction of the Athens–Madrid route reflects the continued recovery of European air travel and the expanding network of regional connections. By improving accessibility between Greece and Spain, the service highlights how mid-sized carriers are contributing to the rebalancing of European air traffic. For travelers, this offers a practical new choice that simplifies organizing their trips. It also strengthens cultural ties between these two historic capitals.
