Supporters traveling to Stamford Bridge for the Premier League match between Chelsea and Sunderland on 25 October should prepare for major disruptions across London’s transport network. Planned maintenance will close the District Line west of Embankment, including the entire Edgware Road branch, which means Fulham Broadway Station will remain closed all day. The Circle Line will also be suspended between Edgware Road and Tower Hill, and Overground services on the Mildmay Line will not run between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction.

The closures will limit access to the stadium by Underground and Overground routes. While the Piccadilly Line at Earl’s Court Station will stay open, Transport for London has warned that passengers could face delays of up to an hour after the match because of crowding. Football fans are advised to consider walking from Hammersmith or South Kensington, where other Underground lines remain in service, to avoid congestion near Fulham Broadway.

What Travelers Should Expect

Visitors heading to the game should allow extra time for their journey, as walking routes from nearby stations are expected to be busy. Routes from Earl’s Court, Hammersmith and South Kensington will remain open, but crowd control and queueing systems may slow movement around the area. Passengers should expect reduced capacity and longer waiting times before and after the match, especially during peak travel hours.

Those coming from other parts of the city may face additional delays, as the closure of the District and Overground lines will push more travelers onto alternative routes such as the Piccadilly and Central Lines. Replacement buses and road traffic in west London may also cause further travel time extensions. Checking Transport for London’s live updates before departure and leaving home earlier than usual is strongly advised.

The changes to service this weekend show how maintenance work can have a big impact on matchday logistics in London. The combination of closed lines and large crowds will put more stress on nearby stations and other ways to get around. This situation shows how important it is for fans and other travelers to plan ahead and be flexible. Giving yourself more time to travel and checking for real-time updates will help you relax and get to and from the stadium more easily.
