Travellers flying long distances with Lufthansa will soon notice changes onboard the Airbus A380. From February, the airline begins upgrading the Business Class cabin of its largest aircraft at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden. This update is part of a broader plan to refresh cabins across the long haul fleet, including other wide body aircraft. The first upgraded A380s are expected to return to regular flights from Munich in April.

What Changes Once You Step Into Business Class

The work on the A380 focuses on efficiency as well as passenger experience. Lufthansa is using a cabin layout that has already been approved, allowing the aircraft to be upgraded without long certification delays. At the same time, each aircraft undergoes routine maintenance while in Dresden. This approach helps reduce downtime and allows the airline to bring refreshed aircraft back into service faster for travellers.

Passengers in Business Class will see the biggest improvements. Every seat will now offer direct aisle access, making it easier to move around the cabin on long flights. Seats are wider than before and convert into fully flat beds measuring at least two metres. This makes sleeping more comfortable, especially on overnight routes and long intercontinental journeys.

Other updates focus on privacy and personal comfort. Adjustable partitions give travellers more separation from nearby seats, creating a calmer and more private space. Bluetooth connectivity allows passengers to connect their own devices directly to the onboard system. Together, these changes support a quieter, more flexible travel experience for work, rest, or entertainment during long hours in the air.

"Lufthansa operates the only strong A380 fleet in the EU, stationed at our 5-star airport. The retrofit underscores our commitment to providing a top flight experience on the long-haul aircraft that is so popular with our customers. The new premium seats offer more privacy and significantly more comfort than before. We look forward to offering our passengers this enhanced travel experience in Business Class starting in April."
Heiko Reitz, Hub Manager Munich, Lufthansa Airlines

This upgrade means the Airbus A380 remains a strong option for long haul flights rather than an ageing aircraft. With 68 Business Class seats alongside First Class, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, the A380 continues to play an important role in Lufthansa’s network. As more aircraft are updated through mid 2027, passengers can expect a more modern and comfortable experience on routes served by this flagship plane.
