Travelers in Lancashire can now rest easy knowing that late-night bus services on the Service 6 route will continue to run, thanks to funding from the county council. These vital services, which operate from Monday to Saturday evenings, will maintain their 21.55 and 22.55 departures, although the Sunday service will end earlier at 20.55.

This move is a relief for the approximately 4,600 passengers who rely on these late-night journeys annually. The announcement comes after Preston Bus revealed they had to reconsider many of their routes due to increased costs, limited resources, and a decline in passenger numbers. As a result, several later evening journeys were at risk of being cut.

Andrew Varley, the Public Transport Manager at Lancashire County Council, explained, "We have assessed the impact of these changes and are funding Service 6, as this was the only route that wasn't covered by alternative later night provision from other services."

The decision to support Service 6 ensures that other Preston Bus routes, which were reduced but continue to run hourly, will be supplemented, allowing residents and travelers to maintain their evening plans and access the city center. This initiative underscores the council's commitment to minimizing disruption and ensuring public transport services remain robust.

For those planning a night out in Lancashire, this news means you can continue to rely on the Service 6 buses to get you home safely. Whether you're heading to the city center for a late dinner, catching a show, or simply enjoying an evening out, the council's intervention ensures your transportation needs are covered.
