Italian tourists faced chaos at the country's airports due to strikes by security personnel and baggage handlers scheduled for January 8. During the day, many flights were delayed, but the minimum level of basic services continued to be provided. This is required by Italian law.

According to Simple Flying, a 24-hour nationwide strike of security personnel and baggage handlers was announced by employees of Airport Handling, Swissport Italy, Mle-Bcube, Ags Handling, and Aviapartner Handling.

This led to significant delays at many airports in resort cities. In particular, problems arose in Milan and Venice.

Passengers using Florence Peretola Airport (FLR), Milan Linate (LIN) and Malpensa (MXP) airports, Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO), Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Treviso (TSF) airports felt the effects of employee discontent.

The strikers are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. With the support of trade unions, they are boycotting work to influence employers.

Some flights have reportedly taken off from the airports. According to the country's legislation, flights scheduled for the period from 07:00 to 10:00 local time and from 18:00 to 21:00 were operated as scheduled.
