In a profound study titled "Portrait of Family Journeys: Autism, ADHD, and Neurodiversity," MMGY Global explores the unique preferences and challenges faced by parents of neurodiverse children. Beyond merely highlighting these experiences, the report underscores the necessity for tailored accommodations and greater empathy in the tourism industry.

During the planning of family trips, the survey reveals a trend towards exploring new destinations, with 77% opting for unfamiliar territories in the coming year. Interestingly, online travel agencies emerge as a favored source of information for 46% of these families, aiding them in making informed choices.

Regarding transportation, personal vehicles prevail, offering flexibility (64%), convenient packing (61%), and cost savings compared to air travel (59%). Similarly, the choice of hotel leans towards traditional chains, with visual online events playing a crucial role in decision-making for 68% of respondents.

Delving into itinerary preferences, the study emphasizes a strong inclination towards family activities such as beach relaxation, theme parks, and encounters with wildlife. However, these plans are accompanied by obstacles such as cost, safety, and service when choosing a destination.

It's not surprising that the presence of crowds and the attitude of fellow travelers significantly influence decision-making, highlighting the need for greater awareness and adaptation in the tourism industry. Key recommendations include tailored attractions, staff training, and improved destination information to better serve families with neurodiverse children.

MMGY Global's research unveils the nuanced landscape of family journeys for neurodiverse children, urging stakeholders to prioritize inclusion, empathy, and tailored conditions in shaping future journeys.
