Holiday Flights at Risk as Air Transat Pilots Signal December Strike

Air Transat has announced that its pilots have given notice of a possible strike beginning on 10 December 2025, creating a real chance of cancellations at a time when many people are preparing to travel for the holidays. The airline has warned that services to winter sun destinations may be disrupted if negotiations fail to progress in time. Air Canada confirmed that its own flights remain unaffected and will continue to run as normal.

To manage the situation, both carriers have begun coordinating rebooking options for passengers holding Air Transat tickets. Those already transferred to Air Canada services can check in and choose seats through Air Canada’s system within 24 hours of departure. Travellers who have not received new flight details are being advised to contact Air Transat directly to have their tickets re-issued or to speak with their travel agent.

Holidaymakers who booked through third-party platforms, including online travel agencies, are being asked to resolve changes through their provider. Customer phone lines remain busiest for travellers departing within 48 hours, with airlines encouraging anyone not flying immediately to delay non-urgent calls. This measure is intended to free up support staff for those facing near-term disruption or requiring last-minute confirmations.

The potential walkout adds an extra layer of uncertainty for those heading to warm-weather destinations across the Caribbean, Mexico, and the southern United States. These routes are among Air Transat’s most popular winter choices, giving travellers easy access to beaches, cultural sites, and all-inclusive resorts during the Christmas season. With some passengers shifted to Air Canada flights, connections through major hubs such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver may offer alternative paths to these hotspots.

As talks continue, the situation shows how quickly holiday trips can be thrown off course when staff disputes surface.
