The European tourism industry is showing impressive growth in 2024, according to the latest Eurostat data. The number of overnight stays in hotels and other accommodation establishments has reached record levels, indicating a significant recovery and growth following the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Eurostat, published on July 2, 2024, the number of overnight stays in hotels and other accommodation establishments in the European Union increased by 15% compared to the previous year. In total, more than 150 million overnight stays were recorded in the first quarter of 2024. This figure exceeded experts' expectations and became the highest in the last decade.

Popular Destinations

The largest increase in the number of tourists was recorded in Spain, Italy, and Greece. These countries have traditionally been popular destinations for tourists from all over the world, and this year they once again confirmed their status as leading tourist destinations.

Spain: With more than 40 million overnight stays, Spain became the leader among all EU countries. The increase in the number of tourists is associated with a variety of tourist offerings, including beach holidays, cultural attractions, and gastronomic tours.

Italy: The number of overnight stays in Italy reached 35 million, which is also a significant increase. Tourists actively visited Rome, Venice, and Florence, as well as popular coastal resorts.

Greece: Greece showed significant growth, especially on the islands of Crete, Rhodes, and Santorini. The number of overnight stays exceeded 20 million, making Greece one of the fastest-growing destinations.

The growth of tourist flows has a positive impact on the economies of European Union countries. The increase in the number of tourists leads to higher employment in the tourism sector and stimulates the development of related industries such as transport, catering, and retail.

New Trends in Tourism

According to the report, new trends are also being observed in the tourism industry. Much attention is being paid to sustainable tourism and ecotourism. More and more tourists are choosing environmentally friendly modes of transport, preferring to stay in eco-hotels and participate in eco-tours.

The recovery and growth of the tourism industry in Europe in 2024 is a positive signal for everyone working in this sector. As Europe continues to attract millions of tourists, further growth and development of tourism can be expected in the future.
