A ground incident involving a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900ER and a Spirit Airlines Airbus A321neo at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) on Sunday evening resulted in significant flight disruptions. The Boeing, operating as DL2577, struck the parked Airbus, designated as NK655, which was in the boarding process at the gate.

The event occurred around 19:00 when the Delta flight, arriving from Atlanta, inadvertently made contact with the Spirit aircraft's wingtip. This mishap led to the Delta flight being delayed by nearly five hours, and the subsequent cancellation of the Spirit flight bound for Los Angeles.

Both aircraft were immediately removed from service for inspection, causing ripple effects on subsequent operations for both airlines. Delta had to deploy a replacement aircraft to cover the delayed flight back to Atlanta, resulting in a delayed arrival time and further adjustments to the flight schedule the following day. Similarly, Spirit was unable to secure a replacement aircraft in time, leading to the cancellation of its flight and the need to make alternate travel arrangements for its passengers.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Passengers on the Spirit flight deplaned normally, and Delta promptly worked to accommodate its passengers to their final destinations. Both airlines emphasized their commitment to safety and the inconvenience caused to their customers.

This incident adds to a growing list of ground collisions this year, highlighting ongoing challenges in ground operations and safety management in busy airports.
