Glasgow Secures New Year-Round Route to Hurghada
Jet2 will begin year-round flights and holidays to Hurghada on 11 February 2027, adding a major new destination to its Egypt schedule. The airline will operate weekly Thursday services from Glasgow Airport, responding to long-standing demand for direct access to the Red Sea. To mark the announcement, Jet2 has introduced a £100 discount per person on all Egypt holiday bookings departing from Glasgow.
Hurghada’s addition comes after years of requests from Scottish customers seeking reliable access to Egypt’s warm climate and coast. Jet2 says the new route reflects increased interest in destinations offering a mix of beaches, snorkelling spots, and cultural experiences. The launch also follows strong demand across the wider Jet2 network, with Egypt repeatedly topping lists for year-round sunshine escapes.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be giving customers in Scotland even more choice thanks to the launch of Egypt as a brand-new destination from Glasgow Airport. With year-round availability to the magical destination of Hurghada, we are giving holidaymakers a fantastic choice in an iconic holiday hotspot, and we cannot wait to get started. We are incredibly excited about this new destination, and we know how popular it will be with our customers, based on the demand out there. To celebrate our latest destination, we have also launched a special offer on all holidays to Egypt, so holidaymakers can get away for less."
Alongside flights, Jet2holidays has released a selection of 3–5-star hotel options across Hurghada, Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, and Soma Bay. These resorts offer wide beachfront hotels, rich marine life and an easygoing atmosphere that suits both sun-seekers and families. Jet2 emphasises that the expansion aims to give Scottish travellers more choice and convenient access to a winter-sun favourite without needing to connect through another hub.
With direct flights available all year, more Scottish travellers can now explore the length of Egypt’s Red Sea coast. Hurghada’s location opens the door to coral reefs ideal for diving, day trips to desert canyons, the old town’s souks, and quieter resort areas like Makadi Bay. It also provides a practical base for excursions to Luxor, while still offering the simplicity of a beach-first holiday for those seeking a low-effort break in warm weather.
As airlines adjust their long-term plans, Jet2’s move places Glasgow among UK airports with steady access to Egypt’s Red Sea region. For travellers, this means fewer seasonal gaps, more predictable booking options, and a broader mix of accommodation choices. The decision highlights the growing importance of year-round sunshine routes for Scottish passengers, giving them another dependable escape for beach holidays, diving trips, or winter breaks.
