Frontier Airlines Pilots on the Verge of a Strike: What Travelers Should Expect

Pilots of Denver-based Frontier Airlines have recently taken a decisive step by voting in favor of a strike. A significant majority of the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) members, representing the interests of Frontier pilots, supported this decision—99% of participants expressed readiness to take action. Their dissatisfaction stems from the lack of progress in contract negotiations, which have been ongoing since January of this year. Despite mediation, both sides have been unable to reach an agreement that, according to ALPA, would reflect the pilots’ contributions to the airline.

While the strike vote does not indicate an immediate work stoppage, it gives pilots additional leverage in negotiations with airline management. Frontier Airlines issued a statement noting that several steps must be completed before a strike could occur, including the National Mediation Board (NMB) declaring an impasse in negotiations and the completion of a 30-day cooling-off period.
