Frankfurt Airport’s new Sky Line people mover is running again after technical inspections, test trips and software updates. Passengers, visitors and airport employees can once more use the automated line linking Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Fraport says technical adjustments were made along the route, all vehicles were checked, and the daytime replacement buses have now been stopped.

How Terminal Transfers Will Work

During the restart period:

  • the Sky Line is available between Terminals 1, 2 and 3
  • up to eight automated vehicles are in use
  • trains run at up to 50 km/h
  • the line pauses nightly from 23:00 to 04:00
  • shuttle buses connect the terminals during that overnight pause
  • Siemens Mobility will continue checks and improvements at night

Siemens Mobility, responsible for technical maintenance, worked with Fraport to resolve the problems. Airport officials say stable operation is now possible, although occasional technical faults cannot be fully ruled out. The new Sky Line had been halted in late May after recurring issues appeared under rising operational loads. In regular service, the 5.6 km driverless system can carry up to 4,000 people per hour in each direction.

The restart should make movement inside Frankfurt Airport easier again, especially for passengers changing terminals before connecting flights. It also helps airport staff, visitors and people using services spread across Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Faster terminal transfers are useful for travellers linking flights with Frankfurt’s rail station, airport hotels or onward trips across the Rhine-Main region.

The restart should make daytime transfers at Frankfurt Airport easier again, especially for passengers changing terminals between flights. Overnight journeys still need more planning, as terminal changes may take longer while buses replace the train. Anyone with a late arrival, early departure or tight connection should check terminal information before travelling.
