Rail passengers travelling between Rome and Fiumicino Airport are being advised of a temporary disruption in early December, as infrastructure works take place around the future Pigneto station. Trenitalia has confirmed that upgrade works will run on 5, 6 and 7 December 2025. During this period, services operating to and from Fiumicino may run with altered train numbers, shortened routes, or be cancelled on certain sections of the line.

These works form part of a wider project to expand rail capacity in Rome and introduce a new stop at Pigneto, which is expected to strengthen future connections across the city. While the long-term goal is to improve mobility, the scheduled works will affect regular traffic between the airport and central Rome. Passengers are advised to look up their train details before setting off, as the timetable may differ from what they normally expect.

Trenitalia has not announced additional replacement options, but notes that specific updates will be published closer to the dates. Depending on the route, some trains may terminate earlier than planned, operate with different numbering, or not run on the affected section. These operational changes allow engineering teams to work directly on track areas linked to the new station development.

The disruption covers only three days, but travellers heading to or from Fiumicino Airport may still need to adjust their journey. Major stations like Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina may see changes to their stopping patterns or fewer trains than usual. Allowing extra time for airport connections is likely to make the journey easier.

Once completed, the infrastructure improvements connected to the Pigneto station are expected to support smoother rail travel across Rome in the years ahead. Although the December works may cause short-term inconvenience, they represent a step toward a more efficient network. Anyone using the Fiumicino line between 5 and 7 December 2025 is advised to check schedules in advance to avoid surprises.
