Cork Airport Connects Ireland with Türkiye’s Coastal Heritage and Beaches

Beginning May 16, 2026, passengers departing from Cork Airport will have access to a new direct route to Antalya, Türkiye, operated by SunExpress. The flight will run twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, until October 24 as part of the summer schedule. Following the introduction of flights to İzmir earlier this year, this marks the second SunExpress connection from Cork to Türkiye, showing rising interest in Mediterranean destinations nearby.

The new route strengthens Cork Airport’s role in offering broader access to southeastern Europe. Antalya, located on the southern Turkish coast, is a popular destination for summer travellers due to its warm climate and proximity to both natural and historical landmarks. Passengers from Munster and the surrounding region can now fly directly to the Turkish Riviera, skipping lengthy connections through major hubs.

Antalya’s rich historical heritage includes landmarks such as Aspendos Theatre, an ancient Roman theatre that continues to host performances. Exploring Kaleiçi offers travellers a chance to see narrow lanes, traditional Ottoman homes, and a harbor dating back to Roman times. A visit to Hadrian’s Gate, a triumphal arch built in honour of the Roman emperor, offers a glimpse into the city's ancient past.

Beyond the city, this route allows easier exploration of the surrounding region. Visitors can explore Phaselis, the ruins of a historic Lycian settlement surrounded by both forest and shoreline. Nature enthusiasts may opt for the Düden Waterfalls, just northeast of Antalya, ideal for day trips. For panoramic views and less-crowded ruins, Termessos, set high in the Taurus Mountains, remains a rewarding choice for more adventurous travellers.

This new route provides Irish travellers with more straightforward options for both brief trips and longer vacations. It also opens up opportunities for exploring Türkiye’s cultural and natural heritage beyond typical package holidays. As regional airports develop, connections such as Cork–Antalya are becoming examples of how to better serve travellers seeking straightforward access to diverse and genuine travel experiences.
