Around the middle of September 2025, Avanti West Coast introduced a refreshed timetable, increasing weekly trains by 86 and adding over 38,000 seats throughout its network. At present, weekly train operations total 2,045, surpassing the levels recorded back in December 2019. These updates affect major urban and regional lines and are intended to better align train services with the actual needs of passengers. This update represents the most significant timetable revision since the pandemic, influencing train services every day of the week.

Main highlights and changes in the new schedule:

  • London – Liverpool: 36 more weekly trains have been added, offering departures roughly every half hour during busy times.
  • London – Midlands: 26 additional departures each week, covering weekdays and weekends.
  • Manchester: Two extra weekday trains, including a new late southbound service.
  • Chester: Hourly weekday service plus two additional weekend trains to improve North Wales access.
  • Evero fleet: 13 hybrid and 10 fully electric trains have been introduced to meet passenger demand and boost the reliability of the schedule.
  • Evening and late services: Expanded options allow more flexible travel to northern England and North Wales.
“By continuing to grow the timetable in stages, we’re able to respond to demand in a measured and sustainable way – ensuring we scale our operations responsibly while maintaining the standards our customers rightly expect."
Andy Mellors, Manging Director at Avanti West Coast

The updated timetable makes several destinations more accessible to tourists. Liverpool benefits from more frequent departures, making cultural and leisure trips easier to schedule. The Midlands, including Birmingham, now have increased connectivity for both day trips and weekend visits. Northern England cities such as Manchester and Chester, as well as North Wales, gain extended evening and weekend services, enabling tourists to explore a wider range of destinations without time constraints. This supports both short city breaks and regional excursions.

In Liverpool, visitors can immerse themselves in The Beatles Story, walk along the Albert Dock, and enjoy the Tate Liverpool art gallery with greater ease. In Birmingham and the nearby Midlands, visitors can explore Cadbury World, uncover the history of Warwick Castle, and interact with exhibits at the National Motorcycle Museum. Manchester provides cultural highlights such as the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester Art Gallery, and vibrant music and nightlife venues. Chester and North Wales allow travelers to enjoy the Roman city walls, Chester Zoo, Snowdonia National Park, and scenic coastal towns.

The Evero trains come with modern features such as quieter rides, more comfortable seating, extra space for luggage, and both USB and electrical outlets. These improvements help balance capacity on high-demand routes and create more organized travel services across Liverpool, the Midlands, Manchester, and Chester. Extended evening services and additional weekend departures allow better access to regional destinations. This schedule update responds to passenger demand and marks the most substantial operational shift Avanti West Coast has enacted since 2019.
