Latvian airline airBaltic has announced a new route connecting Palanga, Lithuania, with Amsterdam, Netherlands, operating twice weekly. This expansion is part of the airline’s strategy to increase its presence in the Baltic region.

airBaltic, known for its fleet of Airbus A220 aircraft, has been a key player in the aviation sector of the Baltic countries since its inception in 1995. The airline, which exclusively operates the Airbus A220, formerly Bombardier aircraft, serves over 70 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus.

The new route from Palanga to Amsterdam marks the latest addition to airBaltic’s network. Palanga, located in western Lithuania, will now have direct flights to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, covering a distance of 708 miles. The flights will be operated twice weekly, with an average flight time of just over two hours. This new route enhances airBaltic’s connectivity in Lithuania, bringing the total number of destinations served from the country to 19.

Tomas Zitikis, Head of Route Development at Lithuanian Airports, emphasized the significance of this route for the Western Lithuania region. He noted that the direct connection to Amsterdam will facilitate easier and quicker travel not only to the Netherlands but also to numerous international destinations via Schiphol’s extensive network, including the United States. Moreover, this route is expected to boost tourism from Western Europe to Lithuania.

In addition to expanding its network, airBaltic is also investing in its fleet. The airline operates one of the youngest fleets in the world, consisting of 47 Airbus A220-300 aircraft. This week, at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Germany, airBaltic announced plans to equip its A220-300s with new RECARO economy class seats. These seats, featuring integrated headrests, a 30-inch pitch, recline capabilities, and USB-C ports for power supply, will debut in 2026.

airBaltic continues to grow, now employing over 2,500 people. With its latest expansion and fleet enhancements, the airline aims to provide improved services and greater connectivity for its passengers.
