British bus company First Solent intends to increase the number of trips on the E1, E2 and 9/9A routes in the evening. This initiative was made possible after the company received government funding from Hampshire County Council (HCC), which allocated 4.2 million pounds to improve the level of service on 15 routes.

It is reported that the improvements should be expected from May 2024 for passengers in towns such as: Gosport, Fareham, Basingstoke, Winchester and others. This was reported in the Portsmouth News.

James Eustace, Commercial Director of First Solent, said: "We're proud to be able to serve communities in Fareham, Gosport, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent, Locks Heath and Lawford with increased frequency and better evening bus services from May."

According to Nick Adams-King, councillor and executive member for universal services at HCC, the initiative will provide a significant boost to the bus network, enabling people to stop using their own vehicles, saving money on travel and improving the local economy.

"We have worked in partnership with local bus companies operating across the county to identify those routes that have the potential to see significant growth in passenger numbers. While the funding will be provided to support the improvements for two years, our overall aim is that bus use will increase over this time so that the improvements will continue beyond this period," said Nick Adams-King.
