United Airlines to Launch Direct Bari–New York Flights in May 2026

United Airlines will soon connect southern Italy directly to the United States. From 1 May 2026, the carrier will start flights between Bari (BRI) and Newark, New York (EWR), becoming the first American airline to link Puglia with the US. The move expands long-haul access from Italy’s Adriatic region, known for its coastal towns, architecture and Mediterranean food scene.
According to Aeroporti di Puglia, the route will operate four times a week in both directions using a Boeing 767-300ER, with no overnight transfers required.
From Bari (BRI) to New York (EWR):
- Days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
- Departure: 09:45
- Arrival: 14:00 (local time)
From New York (EWR) to Bari (BRI):
- Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays
- Departure: 16:45
- Arrival: 07:45 (next day, local time)
The timetable ensures smooth travel both ways, giving passengers convenient connections without long layovers or overnight stops.
Regional officials described the move as a major step for Puglia’s connectivity and tourism. Antonio Maria Vasile, President of Aeroporti di Puglia, said the new service reflects growing confidence in the region’s market. He added that the direct US connection will create opportunities for local businesses, encourage investment and bring more visitors to southern Italy.
The route will give American travellers a simple way to reach Puglia’s highlights - from Alberobello’s cone-shaped trulli houses and Polignano a Mare’s seaside cliffs to Lecce’s baroque architecture. Bari also connects easily to Greece, Croatia and Albania by sea, expanding travel options around the Adriatic. The region’s blend of history, food and coastline continues to attract visitors looking for something beyond Italy’s usual tourist paths.

The addition of the new flight makes Puglia better connected to the world, offering a straightforward route for business, study, and family visits abroad. It also highlights the region’s growing role in international travel, long centred around northern Italy. The new link cuts travel time between Puglia and North America. People from southern Italy can now reach major US cities without long stopovers, while visitors coming the other way get a straightforward route to explore Puglia’s beaches, towns, and food traditions.
