Ukraine has been included in the Mediterranean rail corridor: what will change
In the EU, countries have agreed on a new project for the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. It is planned to add Ukraine to the transport corridor so that trains from Lviv can go across Europe.
Changes to the TEN-T project were added by MEPs Inmaculada Rodriguez-Piñero and Isabel Garcia Muñoz. They were supported by European Commissioner for the Coastal Railway Axis Josep Vicente Boira, Levante-emv.com writes.
Thus, the Mediterranean rail corridor will be the only one that will completely cross Europe from west to east. The basic network should be ready by 2030, it will be expanded by 2040, and the corridor will be fully operational by 2050.
The route will start from the southern coast of Spain, passing through Almeria, Granada, and Antequera, and end in Lviv, which will become the easternmost point on the map of European railways.
Passenger trains will move at 160 km/h and cross the borders in just 25 minutes.
According to Spanish Minister of Transport Oscar Puente, the agreement on the new rail corridor is a key milestone in the development of the European Union. He emphasized that it will not only strengthen the unity of the EU but also stimulate economic growth.
