Train Disruptions Near Naples Affect Summer Travel Plans

Train services between Napoli Campi Flegrei and Villa Literno will be suspended from June 16 to 29 and again on July 3 and 4 due to scheduled maintenance work. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is overseeing the upgrade, which includes full renewal of tracks, rails, and ballast at Campi Flegrei station. The project forms part of a wider infrastructure improvement program aimed at enhancing long-term rail performance across Campania.
The works will involve about 20 workers from RFI and external contractors, with a budget allocation of €600,000. All regional and metropolitan trains running between the impacted stations will be halted during the maintenance work. Revised timetables and rerouted connections will be communicated through the official channels of the railway operators. Passengers are urged to consult real-time updates before planning their travel.
For visitors, especially those visiting western Naples, the disruption will make reaching several outdoor and cultural landmarks more complicated. Miseno Beach, a popular summer spot known for its views and calm waters, will be less accessible. Getting to the Capo Miseno Lighthouse, which offers panoramic views of the Bay of Naples, will involve taking different routes. Getting to Lucrino’s thermal springs will require extra time because of the suspended train routes.
Other nearby attractions will also be harder to reach. A trip to Monte Nuovo Natural Reserve, a forested volcanic area ideal for hiking, may involve multiple transfers. Getting to Via Napoli seafront promenade, a scenic location lined with cafés and sunset views, could be delayed. Even accessing Torregaveta pier, popular for fishing and local street food, will take longer during the rail suspension.
Though temporarily inconvenient, the works aim to modernize Campi Flegrei station infrastructure, enhancing long-term reliability and safety. In the long term, visitors will benefit from more dependable and timely train services thanks to these improvements. Travelers should remain flexible, check updates regularly, and plan additional travel time when navigating this area during the maintenance window.
