Two Cornish towns have been named among the best winter vacation destinations in the UK. St. Ives and Newquay entered the top 10 British places in the Tripadvisor Seasonal Travel Index in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Tripadvisor has published its fourth and latest seasonal travel index for 2023. It looks at travel trends from December 1 to February 29, 2024, as well as Christmas travel and the forecast for 2024 in general, CornwallLive reports.
"The Northern Irish city of Derry is the number one fastest growing local destination. The historic walled city has been attracting fans of popular TV shows recently, such as "The Derry Girls" and "Game of Thrones". The perfect Cotswolds village on Broadway is in second place, and the seaside town of Eastbourne in East Sussex is in third. Scotland is also in trend, taking three of the top 10 spots," the report says.
About St. Ives, the most popular winter destination in Cornwall according to Triadvisor searches, the site said: "St. Ives boasts a quartet of golden sand beaches. The sheltered coves attract swimmers and sun worshippers, but water sports enthusiasts visit St. Ives for surfing, windsurfing and water skiing."
As to Newquay, the report adds: "Catch a wave in Cornwall. The beach, surf and scenery draw crowds to Newquay every summer. Paddle in the shallows or join the surfers in the sea. Not far from the city, Holywell Bay amusement park, Newquay Zoo and Blue Reef Aquarium provide family fun."
The travel and review site reported that its 2024 forecast suggests that four out of five Britons (83%) plan to take a vacation next year, with young people almost twice as likely to book a vacation as their parents.
