The most visited US national parks in 2023 are named
2023 was a record year for the US National Park Service (NPS) since the pandemic as the number of visitors exceeded 325 million. This is a significant increase of 4% compared to 2022, indicating a continued recovery in tourism.
According to CNN, the visitation report was released on February 22. It included not only the parks that saw the most visitors last year but also the most popular park sites.
The most popular were:
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park (13.29 million)
- Grand Canyon National Park (4.73 million)
- Zion National Park (4.62 million)
- Yellowstone National Park (4.50 million)
- Rocky Mountain National Park (4.11 million)
The list of the 10 most visited parks in 2023 includes:
- Yosemite National Park
- Acadia National Park
- Grand Teton National Park
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Olympic National Park
Interestingly, Joshua Tree and Olympic Parks displaced Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio and Glacier in Montana from the top 10 in 2023.
Despite the record number of visitors in 2023, national parks received only 28% of the total number of visitors to all NPS sites. This indicates that other attractions such as memorials, battlefields, and recreational areas are also very popular.
