EasyJet Cuts More Winter Flights as Fuel Costs Soar
EasyJet plans to remove another 600,000 to 700,000 seats from its winter 2026/27 schedule as rising fuel prices push up operating costs. The latest decision follows similar cuts earlier this summer, bringing the total reduction to around 1.3–1.4 million seats. Passengers travelling between October and March could have fewer flights to choose from, although the airline has not identified which routes or airports will be affected.

EasyJet normally offers around 50 million seats during the winter season. Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said the latest cuts were equivalent to roughly two days of flying, with high fuel prices making some services increasingly expensive to operate. Jet fuel costs roughly doubled after the conflict involving Iran began in February. Although prices have since eased, they remain higher than airlines had expected.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled can choose a refund or rerouting under easyJet's passenger rights policy. The airline aims to offer another easyJet flight within 24 hours. If none is available, alternative airlines or comparable ground transport may be covered. Compensation depends on the circumstances, with cancellations notified at least 14 days before departure generally excluded from compensation.
The cuts do not mean that 700,000 existing bookings have been cancelled. EasyJet is reducing its planned capacity, and the airline has not identified specific routes affected by the latest changes. Passengers arranging winter holidays should confirm their preferred dates and available return flights before booking other travel. Existing ticket holders should not cancel their reservations solely because of the announcement, as normal fare conditions may still apply.
