Deutsche Bahn Keeps €99.99 Family Ticket for Good

Deutsche Bahn is bringing back its €99.99 Family Ticket as a permanent fare after testing it during summer 2026. Sales reopen on 26 October, with the first journeys available from 1 November. The price itself has not fallen: the summer version also cost €99.99 return. What changes is availability, as the ticket will no longer be limited to a summer promotion.
The fare covers second-class travel on DB long-distance trains across Germany for up to five people, with seat reservations included. A one-way version costs €59.99. At least one child must travel, no family relationship is required, and a booking can include no more than two people aged 15 or over. If five people use the return fare, the price works out at about €20 each.
What the DB Family Ticket Includes
- Booking: from 26 October 2026
- Travel: from 1 November
- Return fare: €99.99
- One-way fare: €59.99
- Group: up to five people, including at least one child
- Adults: maximum two passengers aged 15+
- Included: second-class long-distance travel and seat reservations
- Trains: booking is tied to selected services
- Local transport: can be added for an extra charge
- Availability: limited
- Refunds: permanent-ticket cancellation terms have not yet been confirmed by DB
The saving depends mainly on what the adults would otherwise pay. Children aged 6–14 already travel free on DB long-distance trains when accompanied by someone aged 15 or over, so the €99.99 fare should not be compared with five full-price tickets. Another benefit is the reservation: a standard second-class seat reservation currently costs €5.50 per person when it is not already included.
The Family Ticket works best as a cap on the cost of a longer journey rather than an automatic bargain. Families should still check the regular fares for the same trains, as early-booked Saver tickets may cost less. Availability is limited, so the €99.99 option may not appear on every service, particularly once the cheaper allocation has been taken.
