Orient Express Adds Monaco Stop to 2027 Luxury Route

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will stop in Monaco for the first time in May 2027, adding Monte Carlo to its European rail routes. Operated by Belmond, the overnight train will depart Paris and travel along the French Riviera before reaching the principality. Passengers can book a journey ending in Monaco or continue towards Venice, although the new service comes with a considerable price tag.
What to Know About the New Monaco Route
- Train: Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, operated by Belmond.
- Route: Paris–Monaco or Paris–Venice via Cannes and Monaco.
- Launch date: 10 May 2027.
- Frequency: Annual itinerary.
- Duration: One night aboard.
- Paris–Venice timetable: Approximately 15:00 departure from Paris, arriving in Venice at 20:00 the following day.
- Price: From €4,870 per person, based on two sharing a Historic Cabin.
The route follows the red cliffs of the Massif de l'Estérel, passing Saint-Raphaël, Cannes and Nice before reaching Monaco-Monte-Carlo station. Fares include meals, selected wines, soft drinks, transfers and steward service. However, Historic Cabins have shared toilet facilities, while private bathrooms are available in higher accommodation categories. Formal evening attire is required for dinner, and jeans are not permitted. Further details are available on Belmond's website.
Those ending their journey in Monaco can visit the Casino de Monte-Carlo, Prince's Palace and Oceanographic Museum. Nearby Nice and Cannes are also accessible by regional rail. Travellers continuing to Venice should not assume they will have time to explore Monaco, as the train's stopping arrangements may differ. The final itinerary should be checked before making separate sightseeing or hotel bookings.
The service is aimed at those paying for the onboard experience rather than simply reaching Monaco. Regular regional trains already connect Nice with Monte Carlo in around 25 minutes, offering a conventional alternative for exploring the Riviera. Belmond's published fares are subject to availability, while train timings may change. Guests planning onward connections should use the confirmed arrival details rather than relying solely on the provisional schedule.
