A man who has been on hundreds of flights has named the best day to book them and find a great deal. Scott Keyes, the founder of the travel site, has traveled the world and often shares his best tricks and techniques when it comes to saving money.
Scott Keyes has named the perfect date to book airline tickets at a bargain price. And this day will come soon. This was reported by Thesun.co.
The traveler noted that his ideal day is January 8. Mr. Keyes explained: 'It's my favorite date of the whole year. I circle this date on my calendar because airfares are inflated during the Christmas and New Year period. Around January 8, they just fall off a cliff from the most expensive period of the year to the cheapest.'
He also added that prices can drop by as much as 80%. Examples he cited included return flights from Los Angeles to Tokyo, which cost nearly £1,600 in December - dropping to £342 during the first few weeks of January. And New York to Miami dropped from £487 to £110.
Plus, not only can you save money, but you can also have a better travel experience in January compared to previous winter months.
Some of his other Scott Keyes tips include the '10-second hack,' which is looking for two one-way tickets on different airlines rather than round-trip. He explains: 'Sometimes the round-trip price isn't the best price available, and it's worth taking a little extra time to find the best deal.'
Another way to save money on flights is through mistake fares, some of which are a tenth of the regular price. These are cases where the airline lists a plane ticket for the wrong price - a previous mistake resulted in Cathay tickets for £12,000 being sold for only £535. But this comes with a risk, as the airline may cancel them when they find out about it, so you should avoid booking hotels for which you won't be refunded until closer to your flight time.
