Canadian airline WestJet is launching new flights from the UK to Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.
The London Gatwick - St. John's route, which will begin on May 1, 2024, will take only 5 hours and 45 minutes, as it is the easternmost point of the country, The Sun reports.
At the moment, transfers take about 14 hours, so they won't cost much either, with one-way fares starting at £232. This makes it faster and cheaper than New York, making it an ideal winter destination for a mid-distance trip.
Despite being a city, St. John's feels more like a village with only 110,000 locals. Some even call it a "mini-San Francisco" because of its hilly terrain, and the tourist board calls it "the perfect blend of big-city luxury and traditional small-town charm."
Unfortunately, its ancient architecture was not preserved after a series of fires in the late 1800s.
Many of the houses along the narrow streets are painted in different colors, and one of the most popular roads is called Jelly Bean Row.
Most tourists head to George Street in the evening, where there are bars and nightclubs, as well as festivals throughout the year.
Although iceberg hunting may seem like a strange activity, it is one of the most popular activities as 10,000-year-old glaciers have been spotted in the region, breaking away from glaciers in Greenland.
In 2017, an iceberg in Freeland, Newfoundland, became a tourist attraction after it became stuck in the water.
Canada's east coast is also known for being the setting for the Netflix drama "Anne of Green Gables" on Prince Edward Island and neighboring New Brunswick.
