SAS Expands Aalborg-Winter Routes, Opening Easier Access to Nordic Ski Destinations

SAS will increase its winter flight service between Aalborg Airport and Scandinavian Mountains Airport for the 2025/2026 season. Starting December 14, 2025, flights will operate on Sundays, with an expanded schedule adding Thursday departures from January 8, 2026. Offering direct flights to popular ski destinations like Sälen and Trysil, this seasonal service improves travel options for winter tourists from northern Denmark.
The airline’s expanded schedule means seat capacity will increase by more than 160 percent compared to previous winters. Nearby the Scandinavian Mountains Airport are the ski resorts Hundfjället and Tandådalen in Sälen, together with Høgegga in Trysil. Being nearby means travelers spend less time transferring and more time on the slopes. Growing flight availability mirrors increased interest in ski vacations across the Nordic region and travelers’ preference for convenient transport.
It is pleasing to see the growing interest in the Swedish mountains. By strengthening our route from Aalborg, we make it both easier and more convenient for both new and returning travelers to reach Sälen and Trysil. We look forward to warmly welcoming everyone on board this winter.
Thanks to these improved connections, travelers can enjoy a variety of winter activities in the region. In Sälen, visitors have access to Experium, a leisure center offering indoor surfing and a snow park. Just nearby, the frozen Bråtåfallet waterfall in Trysil presents a one-of-a-kind hiking experience during winter. Cross-country skiers have access to the Hemfjällstangen trail, featuring scenic forest paths covered in snow, located less than an hour from the airport.
Further winter attractions include the alpine slopes at Stöten in Sälen, known for its varied terrain suitable for all skill levels. Trysil features a terrain park for snowboarders and snowshoers who can explore quiet forest paths in the surrounding area. Lindvallen, another area close to Scandinavian Mountains Airport, offers family-friendly ski runs and other outdoor winter sports, broadening options for visitors flying in from Aalborg.

The increased flight frequency and seat availability provide greater flexibility for travelers planning winter breaks. Reduced travel and transfer times, along with a variety of winter activities, reflect the increasing demand for experience-driven holidays. Travelers from northern Denmark will likely find it easier to plan and reach ski destinations in Scandinavia thanks to the expanded flights. These changes also support more spontaneous and shorter winter trips.
