Ryanair has confirmed a major expansion at Liverpool John Lennon Airport for summer 2026, adding a sixth aircraft to its base as part of a US$600 million investment. The airline plans to grow capacity by around 250,000 seats, lifting its total offering by 15%. The updated schedule brings three new destinations - Marrakesh, Tirana, and Warsaw - alongside more frequent services on 11 well-established routes popular with holidaymakers across the Northwest.

The summer programme now features 34 routes in total, with the boosted fleet allowing Ryanair to increase flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Ibiza, Kaunas, Kraków, Malaga, Malta, Porto, Reus and Sofia. With this added capacity, Liverpool Airport expects to handle more than 2.4 million Ryanair passengers a year. To mark the announcement, the airline released a short-term fare promotion with prices starting at £29.99 on selected departures booked through its website.

The airport has welcomed the move, calling it a vote of confidence in Liverpool’s role within the wider region. Ryanair, which has operated from the airport for nearly four decades, now accounts for a significant share of its traffic. Airport representatives say the additional aircraft will support local employment, strengthen international links, and help the airport move towards record passenger numbers in the coming year.

The new Marrakesh, Tirana, and Warsaw routes add a broader mix of getaways, giving people options that go well beyond the usual beach destinations. Marrakesh offers souks, mountain views, and warm weather breaks; Tirana provides easy access to Albania’s coastline and emerging cultural scene; and Warsaw adds another well-connected European capital to Liverpool’s map. The boosted frequencies on Mediterranean routes also give holidaymakers more flexibility when planning trips during peak season.

“As our longest serving airline partner of nearly 40 years with around 40 million of their passengers having chosen to travel via Liverpool in that time, firstly I’d like to thank Ryanair for their continued support and for this latest commitment. This news highlights Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s strategic importance for the City Region and wider Northwest and North Wales and will bring more jobs, more investment and more choice for the region’s travellers as well as for those from overseas visiting the region via the airport too."
John Irving, CEO at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Ryanair’s latest move points to a busy summer for Liverpool, adding more seats, fresh destinations, and a fuller timetable for 2026. People across the Northwest will have a wider range of short breaks and city trips at a time when interest in low-cost travel keeps growing. With a sixth aircraft joining the base at the start of the season, Liverpool looks set for one of its most active summers in years.
