Between September 28 and October 26, 2025, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) will carry out maintenance works on the Fossano–Mondovì section of the Torino–Savona railway. These works involve waterproofing the Pesio, Ellero, and Corsaglia viaducts, reinforcing railway embankments, and modernizing drainage systems between Magliano and Mondovì. The project aims to strengthen structural vulnerabilities and maintain railway functionality even during adverse weather conditions. RFI has announced the works as part of a scheduled maintenance plan.

During the maintenance period, no trains will operate between Fossano and Mondovì, with closures extended to Ceva during the weekends of October 18–19 and 25–26. The decision to extend the closures allows electrical infrastructure upgrades in addition to civil works already planned. Replacement bus services will cover these sections, but passengers are expected to adjust their travel plans. Timetables will be updated to reflect the disruptions, and operators have confirmed adjustments for purchased tickets.

These changes will significantly affect travelers who rely on the Torino–Savona line for regional and intercity connections. Replacing train services with buses will result in longer journeys, fewer direct connections, and possible delays during peak hours. Passengers will need to allow extra time when planning their trips. The revised timetable will feature coordinated transfers, though passengers are encouraged to carefully review departure times to prevent missed connections and plan accordingly for these temporary disruptions.

On weekends, when the closure affects Ceva, disruptions are likely to be more noticeable. With fewer train services operating nearby, buses will carry most passengers, increasing the risk of congestion and slower travel times. Passengers are encouraged to secure tickets ahead of time, monitor announcements from train operators, and explore alternative travel methods like renting a car, using shared transport, or taking unaffected segments of the regional network. Preparing in advance will help reduce inconvenience and delays.

Future works highlight how infrastructure upgrades affect travel patterns and regional mobility. For those traveling between Piedmont and Liguria, this month-long disruption underscores the importance of modern planning tools, flexible routes, and reliable sources of information. Although this is a routine maintenance project, its scale shows how railway maintenance can affect local travel for both daily commuters and visitors. Keeping up to date and planning ahead will enable travelers to adjust smoothly to these short-term disruptions.
