Palermo Gains Skopje Link as Wizz Air Expands Base

Wizz Air will launch a new direct service between Palermo and Skopje on 15 July 2026, adding three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tickets are already on sale. The route links Sicily with the capital of North Macedonia and forms part of the airline’s wider expansion at Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport.
The new connection strengthens Wizz Air’s renewed presence in Palermo, where the carrier has recently restored its base. Airport operator Gesap said the move supports a broader strategy to reinforce international connectivity and diversify the network. The addition of Skopje reflects continued investment in the Sicilian airport and growing cooperation with key airlines.
With Skopje included, Wizz Air will serve 11 routes across eight countries from Palermo, offering close to one million seats. The revived base introduces seven new services: four domestic routes to Bologna, Milan, Turin and Venice, alongside three international links to Sharm el Sheikh, Tel Aviv and Skopje. Other existing destinations include Bratislava, Belgrade, Sofia and Warsaw. All flights will operate with Airbus A321neo aircraft.
The Skopje service opens up easier access to North Macedonia’s capital, known for its Ottoman-era Old Bazaar, riverside promenades and nearby mountain landscapes. Travellers in Sicily gain a new option for short city breaks in the Balkans, while visitors from Skopje can reach Palermo’s historic centre, beaches and cultural sites without connections, making weekend trips and seasonal holidays more straightforward.
The expansion signals a steady rebuilding of Palermo’s route map and greater choice for people planning trips in either direction. More direct flights reduce reliance on connections through larger hubs and shorten journey times. As the summer season approaches, the added capacity and variety give travellers in Sicily and across the region more flexibility when shaping their itineraries.
