Newcastle Airport Anticipates Surge of 3.5 Million Travelers This Summer

This summer, Newcastle Airport is set to welcome over 3.5 million passengers, underscoring its role as a crucial link between the region and the rest of the world. To accommodate the expected influx of travelers, the airport has invested over £20 million in various upgrades.
Passengers will notice several enhancements, including a new security search area and revamped dining options. The updated security area now features advanced scanning technologies, enabling passengers to keep liquids and electronics in their hand luggage, thus speeding up the screening process. The redesigned space aims to provide a smooth start to travelers' journeys.
In response to passenger feedback, dining options in the departure lounge have been significantly improved. Aster & Thyme offers a luxurious setting with panoramic views and a menu highlighting local ingredients. Soul + Grain introduces a fresh ‘food to go’ concept with a variety of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Tap + Brew, formerly Beer House, now features a modern space with local delicacies and a selection of beers on tap.
The Aspire Executive Lounge has been expanded and renovated to accommodate over 300 guests. It is the first in the world to offer Aspire’s innovative ‘3-tier’ product, which includes varying levels of complimentary food and beverages.
Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle International Airport, expressed pride in the recent investments, emphasizing their impact on enhancing the passenger experience. "The new security area and upgraded dining facilities are already providing a hassle-free and enjoyable environment for travelers," he stated.
This summer, travelers from Newcastle can choose from 41 weekly flights to Turkey, 93 to Spain and the Balearics, and 42 to Greece. New flights to destinations such as Alicante and Chania have been introduced by EasyJet and Jet2.com, respectively. Additionally, AEGEAN will continue its twice-weekly flights to Athens, and TUI is launching new routes to Cape Verde and Sharm el Sheikh.
With these extensive upgrades and expanded flight options, Newcastle Airport is well-prepared to handle the busy summer season, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
