New Route Links Bangkok with Almaty’s Scenic Highlights

Thai AirAsia X (flight code XJ) has announced the start of direct flights from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Almaty, Kazakhstan, beginning 1 December 2025. This is the airline’s first route into Central Asia, giving travelers visa-free entry to a destination known for its cool climate, scenic landscapes, and cultural diversity. This new service improves Thailand’s international connectivity and allows passengers to travel to Almaty more directly.
The flights will operate using Thai AirAsia X’s Airbus A330 aircraft, which accommodates 367 passengers. Travel is available from 1 December 2025 through 28 March 2026. Key details for travelers include:
- Booking options via the AirAsia MOVE app or official AirAsia website
- Direct access to Almaty without connecting flights
- Availability of an introductory fare for early reservations

Travelers can now more easily reach Almaty’s natural sites thanks to the new flights. Visitors can explore Big Almaty Lake with its clear alpine waters and hiking trails that surround the area. Passengers have the option to explore Charyn Canyon with its striking rock formations and panoramic landscapes. Another option is the Shymbulak Ski Resort, which offers winter sports from November through May. These sites provide opportunities for outdoor activities and exploration that have become more accessible thanks to the direct flights from Bangkok.
Besides natural attractions, the route provides access to several important destinations in and around the city. Passengers can see the city from Kok Tobe Hill, skate at the high-altitude Medeu Rink, and explore the Green Bazaar, a hub of local cultural life. Direct flights make it possible for travelers to see these destinations in one trip without changing planes, offering a smoother and more practical travel experience.

The introduction of direct flights to Almaty enhances travel options for Thai passengers and others flying from Bangkok. It reduces travel time, offers more flexible itineraries, and provides access to both natural and cultural sites that were previously harder to reach. The new service improves travel options to Central Asia, giving passengers a more accessible way to plan both leisure and cultural trips in the region.
