New Athens–Hamburg Route Expands Greece–Germany Travel Links

SKY express has added Hamburg to its international network with the launch of direct flights from Athens. The new service runs three times a week - on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays - making Hamburg the airline’s fifth German destination after Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Berlin. This move strengthens the carrier’s presence in a market that remains one of the most vital for Greek tourism and economic ties.
Flights on the new route are operated by Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, both known for lower fuel consumption and reduced noise levels. SKY express currently flies a total of 29 aircraft, holding the title of Greece’s youngest fleet. The introduction of Hamburg supports the company’s wider strategy to maintain steady growth across key European markets.
The network has expanded to 27 international destinations, recently joined by routes to Lisbon, Madrid, Berlin and Tel Aviv. Lyon is expected to join the schedule later this year, further widening travel options. These openings continue the company’s approach to building a diverse year-round network connecting Greece with major European cities.
The new Athens–Hamburg link gives travellers easier access to northern Germany’s cultural highlights, from Hamburg’s historic port and concert halls to lakeside towns and Baltic coast escapes. At the same time, visitors from Germany gain smoother routes to Athens and onward journeys across the Greek islands, which remain a favourite choice for short breaks, beach holidays, and cultural trips.
“We are very pleased to welcome SKY express as a new airline in Hamburg. The connection to Athens increases the frequency to a popular destination from Hamburg and opens up new possibilities and flexibility for our passengers, whether for city trips, island hopping, or business trips. SKY express is a real Greece specialist."
This launch reinforces a growing connection between two regions with strong tourism flows in both directions. More frequent, regular links create a steadier travel rhythm and give passengers broader choices when planning trips. With Hamburg now served directly, passengers have clearer options when arranging trips, whether they are heading away for a few days, a longer holiday or work commitments.
