Ryanair states that over 21 million passengers have experienced flight delays or cancellations this year due to persistent issues in air traffic control services. The airline has called on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the governments of France, Spain, Germany, the UK, and Greece to provide clarification regarding the continued flight disruptions. Numerous flights have been delayed or cancelled, forcing travelers to revise their plans and cope with uncertainty during the busy summer period.

The airline’s August "ATC Delays League" underlined that summer 2025 has been dominated by record levels of disruption linked to air traffic control failures. Ryanair argues that these repeated problems expose a lack of accountability from both the European Commission and national authorities, as year after year no effective measures are introduced to prevent delays from escalating during peak travel periods. The carrier warns that without urgent reforms at a European level, passengers and airlines alike will continue to face another cycle of disruption every summer.

Passengers should note that these ongoing ATC issues have direct consequences. Those flying through the worst-performing countries should anticipate potential cancellations, longer waiting times, and sudden changes to itineraries. These interruptions may disrupt transfers, accommodation arrangements, and other travel-related schedules. By identifying countries with the highest delays, passengers can plan extra time, adapt their schedules, and arrange contingencies to ease disruptions.

Ryanair points out that many of these issues could be resolved if air traffic control services were adequately staffed and efficiently managed. The airline has invited passengers to share their experiences via the "Air Traffic Control Ruined Your Flight" webpage, noting that reforms could cut delays by up to 90 percent. Countries with already efficient ATC operations demonstrate that reliable scheduling and smooth travel are possible, providing a model for other nations to follow.

“Yet another month of ATC mismanagement has passed in August with zero action to fix these failing ATC services by those responsible – the EU Commission and National Transport Ministers. Europe’s worst performing ATCs in France, Spain, Germany, the UK, and Greece continue to inflict avoidable delays and cancellations on thousands of flights and millions of Ryanair passengers due to their inexplicable mismanagement and short staffing.“

The situation highlights the importance for travelers to plan carefully and remain informed about potential delays. Those who monitor schedules and allocate extra time for connections may ease the consequences of ATC delays. It emphasizes that properly managed ATC services are vital for reliable and on-schedule flights. Travelers should remain attentive and organize their plans as efficient ATC services help ensure smoother journeys across Europe.
