In Switzerland, 6 tourists went missing during a ski tour
In Switzerland, 6 tourists went missing during a ski tour to Zermatt. The police reported that the skiers went missing near the Matterhorn mountain, which lies on the border between Switzerland and Italy on Saturday, March 9.
It is known that 5 local members of the same family and another person from the canton of Fribourg are missing. The missing are aged 21 to 58 years old, The Guardian reports.
It is noted that the incident took place in the popular Swiss ski resort of Zermatt, in the canton of Valais, on the Zermatt-Arolla highway. The police stated that: "The group started their tour on Saturday in Zermatt and was later reported missing in the Tête Blanche area."
The police noted that the search for the missing was complicated by adverse weather conditions. They added: "The storm raging in the southern Alps and the risk of avalanches have prevented helicopters and rescuers from approaching the area."
