Hidden Fees and Access Problems Reported on eDreams

Hundreds of air passengers across Europe have recently encountered major issues after booking flights with eDreams, a popular online travel agency. Ryanair, Spain’s largest airline, has revealed that eDreams allegedly uses unauthorized methods to sell their flights, such as screen-scraping the airline’s website and creating bookings with fake customer email addresses. These practices make it impossible for passengers to receive updates, access boarding passes, or make changes directly with the airline.

In a detailed statement issued on April 14, Ryanair accused eDreams of inflating ticket prices and using false customer data, which has left travelers locked out of their bookings. Some passengers reported being charged hidden markups of up to €28. Others never received flight confirmation or were unable to locate their reservation on Ryanair’s website. The airline is urging Spanish regulators to take action and ban unauthorized ticket resales by non-approved OTAs.

Ryanair does not authorise eDreams to “scrape” its inventory or resell it at inflated prices. To protect Spanish consumers from eDreams’ harmful practices, Ryanair has released a dossier of complaints from eDreams customers who were overcharged by eDreams but were unable to access their Ryanair bookings or receive important flight information due to eDreams using fake customer contact, and fake payment details, to make these unauthorised bookings.

The consequences are significant. When flights are reserved using inaccurate or falsified details, travelers may be blocked from checking in, adjusting their reservations, or obtaining important safety information. This may lead to missed departures, refusal to board, or being unaware of last-minute itinerary modifications. Using unverified third-party booking platforms can complicate customer service, frequently causing confusion about whom to approach when problems occur.

Before booking a trip, it's a good idea for travelers to take a moment and verify which site they’re using to buy their tickets. Opting for official airline portals or known and approved agencies can help ensure the tickets are valid, prices are clear, and any travel changes are promptly communicated. A quick check on the airline's list of authorized sellers before making a purchase could save travelers time, money, and avoid future complications—especially when it comes to low-cost carriers like Ryanair.

This case highlights the growing danger of trusting travel sites that aren’t properly regulated. Now that global travel is bouncing back, it’s more important than ever for travelers to stay in charge of their own bookings. These days, knowing exactly where and how you’ve booked your flight isn’t just helpful — it’s key to avoiding problems and traveling with peace of mind.
