Get ready to pay more: which resorts have increased tourist tax
Many travellers do not realise that they pay tourist taxes when travelling to different holiday destinations. They are usually charged at the time of booking hotels or visas, so the amount can be more expensive than you would like.
In some cities, these fees have increased due to tourist demand or other reasons. Finance.Yahoo has told you about the resorts where you will have to overpay.
Barcelona, Spain
Last April, the nightly fee rose to €2.75 (or $3.00), which is €1 ($1.09) more than holidaymakers are used to paying. In April 2024, the nightly fee in Barcelona will jump to €3.25 ($3.55).
The amount depends on how expensive a hotel room you rent and how long you stay.
Valencia, Spain
Tourist taxes in Valencia range from 50 cents to 2 euros (or 2.18 USD) per night. The revenue generated by the taxes will be spent on more affordable housing for city residents.
Venice, Italy
When booking a holiday to Venice in 2024, be prepared to pay a fee of 3 to 10 euros (or $3.27 to $10.91) per person at the time of booking.
Olliana, Potrugalia
To cope with the pollution left behind by tourists, Olhão will introduce a tourist tax of 2 euros ($2.18) per night.
Thailand
The introduction of the tax has been delayed for a long time, but soon tourists will pay a fee of approximately $8 (300 baht), and those arriving by land or water will pay approximately $4 (150 baht).
