Barcelona celebrated the completion of the four towers of Sagrada Familia, the legendary cathedral that was built over 140 years.
At the end of September, the last detail, a sculpture of a man, was installed on the tower of St. Matthew, and a day later, an eagle was installed on the tower of St. John the Evangelist. The towers dedicated to Luke and Mark were opened last year. On Sunday, November 12, the building was consecrated at a solemn mass, according to the official website of the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia.
According to the plans, the last, sixth tower of the cathedral will be ready by 2026. Then the construction of the cathedral will be finally completed.
The construction of the Holy Family Church began in 1882. The architect was Francisco del Villar, then he was replaced by Antonio Gaudi. The cathedral should consist of 18 towers: 12 dedicated to the apostles, four to the evangelists, and two more to the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. According to Gaudí's plan, the church will resemble a "forest of tree-like columns" flooded with light through stained glass windows.
Despite the fact that the cathedral is not yet completed, you can get inside. The entrance fee starts from €26.
